The Beta Rho chapter met on Monday, February 4, 2008, at Joliet Junior College in the Horticultural Department. Members were greeted with heart-themed bagged snacks and a bottle of water upon arriving. The hostess committee led by Kay Fox included Donna Spillie, Lori House, and Carol Petersen.

Business meeting :

Eileen Diercks welcomed the members and guest, Michelle Cappel. She commended the group for making the effort in spite of the extremely foggy weather.

Beth Maleski gave the thought for the day in the absence of Ann Bates.

President’s Report: In this report, Eileen discussed the Lambda State convention and mentioned that forms are in the Newscaster.

 

Secretary’s Report: approved as printed.

 

Correspondence: A thank you note received from Laura Bobak was read by Kathy Hermansen, while a thank you from the Guardian Angel Home was received by Ann Bates.

Committee Reports : (reports were short due to weather and program)

Coordinating Council: Members were told our of our responsibility for the program for the Coordinating Council Meeting in March and volunteers were sought.

Legislation: Bev Beck reported on proposed legislation.

Literacy: Bonnie McBeth reported that the final Shop & Share days will be April 14, 15, and 16. The proceeds will go to the Penny Severns Summer Family Literacy program.

Membership : It was noted from Mona Wilson to encourage prospective members to send their applications in by March 1 st.

Professional Affairs: From Audrey Manley, members were encouraged to seek college women to apply for the Education Grant. It is available on line or contact Audrey.

Research: Carol Petersen had forms for members to fill out and place in their jewelry box with their “pin.” This will assist family members in knowing what it is about.

New business: Audrey Manley is running for Illinois Senate.

Program: Donna Theimer presented a wonderful program on fresh flower arrangement giving tips on how to make your flowers look lovely, be secure and keep them going. She talked throughout the presentation with suggestions and answering all members question. The six arrangements were raffled off at the end of the presentation.
